Even as a 24-year-old, ‘Jonah Hex’ star Megan Fox is already a veteran of the full-force Hollywood spotlight which has its perks and dramatic downsides.
She has even developed her own coping mechanism to deal with the blinding light — she stays out of it when she has downtime.
“Oddly you wouldn’t think it, but I’m very domestic,” Fox said at the press conference for ‘Hex.’
“That keeps me sane.”
Fox stays out of the Paris Hilton party crowd, keeping the same friends and supporters she had before she was famous. “I sort of distance myself from the Hollywood crowd,” she said. “I don’t go out and socialize that way.”
The starlet admits that the Hollywood machine can be tough to deal with. Most recently, she had a much-publicized scrape with ‘Transformers’ director Michael Bay before the two parted ways professionally.
“People who make it to this level of fame for whatever reason — whether deserved or not — you have to be a strong person to survive it,” she said. “Because it is very difficult to be under the microscope every moment of every day. Everything that leaves your mouth becomes this sensationalized news story.
“It becomes overwhelming.”
As for her strength, it’s not something that can be taught: “I have no idea where it comes from, but I’ve always been that way.”
Ironically, her ‘Jonah Hex’ co-star Josh Brolin said he recruited Fox to be his sidekick and love interest in the movie partly because of the way she was handling the spotlight at such at a young age.
“Nobody can handle that kind of fame that fast,” said Brolin. “But I felt like she was handling it really well.”
He met her to make sure the toughness was the real deal. “Yah,” Brolin added. “There’s definitely a truck driver mentality there.”
